Epic Art @ Epic Yoga

As my faithful readers and friends know, I show my art at an amazing local yoga studio called Epic Yoga.  This past year I displayed some mixed media drawings that were part of a series reflecting on teaching in an urban environment. In a few months, I will be replacing these works with fresh linoleum block prints based on plants/nature.  This weekend I took my sister on a tour of the neighborhood and stopped in to see the artwork and the stunning space.  Here are a few pictures of the show before it comes down.

The last of the blossoms

Here are the last of the cherry blossoms.  I really love the diversity of representations in this group.  These are from my Wednesday art elective.

Final Self Portraits

It was really hard for me to let go of control and give my students creative freedom for their expressive self portraits.  While some of them turned out to be a bit underwhelming, many turned out better than expected.  I also love that each one is so different.

Animals & their environments

My art elective kids finished their animals and their environments today!  I watched as they bragged to friends and teachers how they made their awesome artwork.

Expressive Self Portraits

I gave my 8th graders the challenge of creating an expressive self portrait using mixed media.  I gave up control and allowed them a lot of freedom to do this project and they really rose to the challenge.  Here are some works in progress.  I'm interested to read what the students write about these pieces.
